In 1977 I was very lucky to be able to buy SB1088 from Tony Butterworth’s shop. This was (I think) the Shirley Roads Club 25. Note riveted head badge.

At the end of the season the frame had to go back to the SBDU – I can’t remember why might have been to do with the chainstays. What came back was a whole new frame! Note transfer head badge – no rivet holes underneath… This was the Charlotteville 50. Early season – check out school jumper worn under my jersey!

Just for fun I put an advertisement in Cycling (Weekly) to see if any of my frames or bikes were out there – I kept all the frame numbers. A lovely fellow contacted me – he had SB1466 in his shed – it had become a training bike (!) and then not used. He kindly sold it to me! Repainted in a slightly odd version of team colours but a lovely sound 753 frame – and 1977 like SB1088!

I decided to use second generation Super Record (introduced in 1978) – although I just noticed there is a first generation rear mech (in parts) on my workbench in this photo!

Advice from Neil, transfers from Greg and paint by Bob (Jackson)…
Yes it is a modern bottom bracket…

Finally had time to finish it! Not meant to be an exact replica of a 1977 tram bike – although they varied greatly in any case!

Delighted to find these! On my daughter’s spare track wheels in this picture – apologies!
