Some future restorations

One of Pongo Braithwaites’! Unusual in that it isn’t full of holes – perhaps he did not feel the need given it is made of 531SL tubing. Time trial geometry and clearances.
Vic Edwards built Condor Italia from the early seventies hence the long Campagnolo dropouts. Signature Edwards fastback seat stays and cutaway fork crown.
Terry Dolan used the Cougar name on his frames for a while. This is a winter or training frame with mudguard eyes and clearances. With Cougar pantographed stem.
With isn’t really a future restoration but a past one! Both Florence and Fred have ridden this bike in Eroica. Takes 20″ wheels (tubulars). Beautifully proportioned little frame.
Harry Hall’s was the premier Manchester bike shop with many of the Manchester Wheelers riders – like Paul Sherwin – riding his frames.
Mercian touring frame (even has a lamp bracket boss…) with Nervex lugs and lovely original period colour scheme. 531 with long Campagnolo dropouts and semi wrapover seatstays.
Reg Barnett was a fearsome South London sprinter but also a shop owner and sponsor. This frame was probably actually made by Dave Russell and is in original paint.
Off the peg were sold by Holdsworthy and custom frames via the Holdsworth shop. From about 1976 the shop frames were branded Roy Thame.
In the seventies Doug used to go to Florence for Christmas which is where he first saw a Viner frame. This frame dates from the late seventies and is in original (very seventies!) paint.
Very tidy time trial made from 531 Professional tubing cut out lugs and Campagnolo vertical dropouts. Close clearances and short wheelbase.
Condor touring frame with mudguard clearances, mudguard eyes and gentle clearances. Ideal touring bike or winter – training bike.
Dave Moulton was a really interesting frame builder who often contributed to Cycling Weekly. He is now in the US but kindly provided the transfers. Early seventies….
Emperor Sport frames were built by Mick Coward – the name in honour of Rik Van Loy. In orginal paint – the Brooklyn colour scheme. No tubing transfer but confident 531.
Classic lo pro frame taking a 650C front wheel – not quite as mad as using a 24″ wheel and a lot more ridable! Original paint and Reynolds 653 tubing.
Mike Mullett is well known for his role at the SBDU but also made some very nice frames under his own name. This frame appears to be from the early seventies.
This Roberts is a slightly “newer” frame than we build up but a very tidy eighties frame. 531 Special lightweight tubing.
A TI Raleigh touring frame with gentle geometry from 1980 with the iconic (post 1978 here) Team Raleigh colours.
As ridden by Luis Ocana and many of the Spanish greats. With Zeus own very distinctive Zeus 2000 fork crown and rear dropouts.

This one gets a big picture! SB1466 a 1977 Reynolds 753 frame made at the SBDU. Regarded by many as the ultimate British frame. As a 1977 frame it does not have “TI” on the downtube and does say Raleigh on the top tube. Important to get these things right! Luckily we have Neil McGowran’s excellent website to advise us…. Campagnolo Super Record headset installed – probably needs a bit more of that!
Another Vic Edwards Condor – this time a lugless Baracchi. Early seventies – long Campagnolo dropouts and a fully sloping fork crown with the fastback seatstays he liked (two of our other Condors built by Vic have similar). Perfect for first generation Dura Ace….
